It's Not You, It's Uncertainty, and You Can Shake Off the Funk

February 13, 20253 min read

Anxiety and low moods can feel overwhelming, but when they’re situational (not clinical), they are signals—not identities.

Listen up. If you’ve been feeling a little anxious, a little low, or just off—you’re not alone. I see you. And trust me, I get it from multiple angles—I wrote a book about it, “I Can Laugh Again: From the Valley of Grief to a Glimpse of Heaven.” Anxiety and uncertainty can feel heavy, but when it’s situational (not clinical), it’s a signal—not your identity. It’s just your system reacting to the unknown, letting you know something needs your attention.

The problem? Sitting in it too long. Overthinking. Wallowing. Feeling like a victim. Letting it seep into your personality like it belongs there. It doesn’t. You are not stuck. The ditch you’re in is not too deep to build a ladder to climb up and out of.

You can move. You can shift. You can do something—take a walk, call a friend who lifts you up, journal, read or listen to a book or a blog to learn something new, pray, dance, go work out, watch something that makes you laugh, or talk to a coach or counselor who actually helps, help someone else. Shake up your energy.

Learn something new and practice what you've learned.

And if you’re unsure where to start? Get real about how you’re showing up. Take the Personal Excellence Profile (PEP) assessment. It’s designed to help you see yourself clearly—your mindset, your energy, and your strengths—so you can tap into your own authentic excellence. Because awareness is the first step to any real shift.

Here’s the truth: You have way more power over your mindset than you think. Don’t be shy, afraid, or lazy in feeling and being more alert and alive. When you reconnect with yourself and learn how to stand firm in who you are and who’s got you—oh, the shifts that happen.

So, if you’re feeling lost, just know—it’s temporary. You can navigate uncertainty with grace, power, and a little bit of play. Now, get your ass up and do something wonderful for yourself today. You deserve it.

Here are three actionable steps you can take right now to start shaking off that funk and reclaim your energy:

  1. Value Yourself: Recognize your inherent worth. Take a moment to affirm your strengths and achievements. This isn't about ego; it's about acknowledging the unique qualities you bring to the table. When you value yourself, you set the foundation for all other positive changes.

  2. Decide and Act: Make a conscious decision to change your current state. Whether it's choosing to go for a walk, calling a supportive friend, or starting a new hobby, commit to an action that uplifts you. Remember, indecision can keep you stagnant; decisive action propels you forward.

  3. Expand Your Horizons: Engage in something new that challenges and excites you. This could be learning a new skill, exploring a different environment, or meeting new people. Expanding your experiences can reignite your passion and zest for life.

These steps align with the principles of the Personal Excellence Profile (PEP) assessment, focusing on valuing self, making decisions, taking action, and expanding one's experiences. By embracing these actions, you're not just addressing the immediate feelings of anxiety or low mood but also building a resilient foundation for future challenges.

You've got this!
